Mopar® Announces Plan To End Sponsorship Of NuFormz Racing

Times are pretty hard. Especially bad for the automotive industry. Here is just some more bad news.

Center Line, Mich. — Mopar®, Chrysler LLC’s Parts division, announced it will end its majority sponsorship of the NuFormz Racing team, which competes in the Formula Drift (FD) Series. Mopar’s sponsorship of the NuFormz Racing team will conclude following the June 5–6 event at Wall (N.J.) Speedway.

“As part of Chrysler’s comprehensive restructuring plan to revitalize our business and succeed as a stronger car company, we’re rigorously reviewing all expenditures and making tough business decisions,” said Mike Accavitti, Director of Brand Marketing and Strategy, Chrysler LLC. “The decision to end Team Mopar’s sponsorship of NuFormz Racing was difficult because of our long-term relationship with the team and all of the success we’ve enjoyed competing in Formula Drift.

“We wish the team nothing but the best in the future,” Accavitti added. “At this time, we plan to continue supporting our other racing sponsorships into the foreseeable future.”

NuFormz Racing team owner Shaun Carlson and driver Samuel Hübinette have enjoyed long and illustrious careers competing under the Team Mopar banner. Carlson debuted with Team Mopar beginning in 2002 as a driver in the NHRA Sport Compact division. He went on to pilot the Team Mopar/SRT® Dodge Stratus R/T NHRA Pro Stock car for Don Schumacher Racing during the 2006 season.

Carlson and Hübinette teamed up in the FD Series in 2004 and quickly shot to the top of the emerging new motorsport. Hübinette claimed victory in the first-ever FD event in his Mopar Dodge Viper, maintained by Carlson, and went on to capture three of four 2004 events and the overall championship in the inaugural FD season. Hübinette, with Carlson as team owner, powered to his second FD championship in 2006. Hübinette, owner of a series-high nine career FD wins, also claimed runner-up finishes in the FD point standings in 2005 and 2008.

“I had a great eight-year run as a member of the Team Mopar family, and want to thank the company for all the great memories I’m taking away,” said Carlson. “It’s a tough decision, but given the current economic environment inside and outside of racing, I certainly understand it.

We’re going to work as hard as ever to cap off our success with Team Mopar with a convincing win at The Gauntlet race in early June.”

How Not to Park an R34 GT-R

Just because its all wheel drive, does not mean you should try to park it on grass.

Car dealership fined $175,000 for installing unapproved aftermarket part

SACRAMENTO - The Air Resources Board fined Sunrise Ford, a car
dealership with outlets in North Hollywood and Fontana, $175,000
last month for illegally modifying 2005 through 2007 model year
light- and medium-duty vehicles with an aftermarket device before
the vehicles were sold.

The part, called a Fuel Maximizer, is intended to improve gas
mileage and performance in cars by changing the flow of air as it
mixes with the gasoline before combustion. Discovery of the
unapproved parts was made during a routine dealer inspection.

"We expect dealers to follow the law, which requires that
certified aftermarket parts only be installed after a vehicle is
sold," said ARB Chairman Mary D. Nichols. "Our air quality can
suffer when careless mistakes are made, so we hope this fine
sends a strong message."

It is illegal in the state of California to perform
modifications on a new car prior to sale. Modifying car engines
can increase harmful emissions and may lead to the vehicle
failing California's smog test.

Per the terms of the settlement, Sunrise Ford will pay a total
of $175,000 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund which
supports research and programs intended to reduce California's
carbon footprint.

California's air quality measures are in place to prevent
excessive emissions that can negatively affect public health.
Ozone, also known as urban smog, can cause difficulty breathing,
shortness of breath, coughs, heightened asthma rates,
cardiopulmonary ailments and premature deaths.

The Air Resources Board is a department of the California
Environmental Protection Agency. ARB's mission is to promote and
protect public health, welfare, and ecological resources through
effective reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and
considering effects on the economy. The ARB oversees all air
pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain
health based air quality standards.

Nissan Skyline Stolen from Sun Valley

This couldn't have happened to a "nicer" guy. My guess is that someone he screwed in the past got back at him stealing this car.

KCBS news Its not a GT-R, and its not the hero car. Its just a GTS. One of the stunt cars for Fast and Furious 4. Probably not even in the US legally. It was one of the cars that should have been exported out of the US.

VIP Petfoods R35 GT-R Wins Targa Tasmania

Sorry for being a little slow on the news, I am actually in Australia now.

Tony Quinn wins the Targa Tasmania by 6 minutes over Jason White in a Lamborghini Superleggera.

Quinn, a former Targa New Zealand winner, threw down the gauntlet on the first stage just outside Strahan, beating Weeks by 11 seconds to reclaim the lead.

Weeks set off in pursuit, but he and co-driver, Bec Crunkhorn, crashed their Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera into trees near the end of the Queenstown stage.

Medical crew were quickly on the scene to assist Weeks and Crunkhorn. Both were conscious and talking to the rescuers before being airlifted to Hobart General Hospital for further medical assessment; their dream of a first Targa title in tatters.

Quinn’s lead was then out to nearly four minutes and, with the Lamborghini of Jason White behind him experiencing major brake problems, he was able to cruise in to Hobart to collect the spoils of victory.

“Our strategy was always to keep up with the others and if we got the wet weather over the last day or two, just to have a lunge for it,” Quinn said.

“I’ve always been bridesmaid to Jim (Richards) or the Whites or somebody else, and we’re very pleased to finally win it. It hasn’t sunk in yet and it feels like it’s been the toughest and most competitive week there’s every been in Targa.

And here is the rest of it. Source: Targa Tasmania
