How to Commment on VCP-32 : 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R Dual Airbag

Nissan Skyline GT-R
This link doesn't say they aren't accepting any further comments on VCP-32. I am not sure if anyone will actually look at these submissions, but it only takes a couple of minutes to make a comment, attach the 800 dual airbag 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R file.  It might be about 7 years late though.

So, please, if you have a minute, go over to this link and fill in the form. If you have a chance, print out a letter, print out the 19 page list of the 800 chassis numbers and send it in to the NHTSA.

"1995 Nissan Skyline Dual Airbag Vehicles

I believe that all of the possible information to make a correct determination for VCP-32 was not available to the NHTSA at the date of publication of this docket. Specifically information contained within section 5 is not correct.  The information required to determine if a 1995 Nissan Skyline was equipped with original equipment dual airbags is available, and attached to this letter. If it could be determined that all 1996 vehicles had dual airbags, then the information for the 1995 dual airbags is available from the same source.

“Because it has no way to reliably determine whether any particular 1995 model
Skyline vehicle was originally equipped with a passenger air bag, the
agency is unwilling to retain import eligibility for that model year.”

Nissan, like all modern manufacturers keeps very detailed records of which parts and options are attached to its vehicles. It needs this information to facilitate parts ordering and vehicle repair. Nissan’s parts ordering system is called FAST. Within FAST it is possible to research a specific chassis number, and from this number obtain the MC(Model Codes), and OP(Option Codes). In addition to being in the FAST program, these model codes, and option codes are located on a plate under the hood of all Nissan vehicles. We normally refer to these model code plates as “blue plates”, but later vehicles have silver plates.

Within the “Model” 18 digit code, each place refers to certain information related to the vehicle.  The particular digit that refers to dual optional airbags in a 1995 R33 Skyline is the 18th or last digit.

I have attached the chassis numbers of 800 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R’s that were factory equipped with dual airbags. These numbers can be verified on the blue underhood plate, and they can be confirmed by Nissan, or any Nissan dealer equipped with the Japanese section of Nissan FAST parts ordering system. "

I am more than happy to help you to convince the NHTSA that it's possible to identify Dual Airbag R33 GT-Rs, manufactured before January the first 1996.

But we will have to get Nissan North
America, Inc. to confirm that.

Have you already contacted them?
