Fuel Pressure Regulator Vacuum Line : Where to Tap an RB26 For A Vacuum or Boost Signal



PSA. If you own a modified turbo car, with a 1:1 fuel pressure regulator, don't set yourself up for failure.

The way a 1:1 regulator works is this. Differential pressure across the fuel injector affects flow. If there is 1 psi of pressure in the plenum, then the differential is like lowering your fuel pressure 1 psi. The boost signal to the fuel pressure regulator raises fuel pressure 1 psi, to keep the rail pressure at base or normally 43 psi.   An OEM 444 cc injector at 43 psi, flows like a 438 cc injector at 42 psi, and a 383 cc injector at 33 psi.  Fuel pressure change calculator.

So at 43 psi base pressure, plus 10 psi of boost, your actual differential fuel pressure is still 43 psi, but your fuel pump needs to supply fuel at 53 psi. At 20 psi of boost, 63 psi of fuel pressure, 30 psi of boost, 73 psi of fuel pressure. If you didn't raise fuel pressure vs boost pressure, you would end up with a lot less fuel through the injector. Back to the PSA part.  If you lose the line, you will probably blow up your car. It will go lean, and probably melt a piston or two. Detonate itself to death.   So that little vacuum line, you want to guard it. You want to make sure it is fresh and supple. You want to make sure it isn't setup for failure.

So then, why the hell would you tap into that line to get vacuum or boost signal?  Every vacuum t you add, is 4 more spots, where a failure could occur. Again, in this system a failure is probably engine death. 2 places for failure is enough. You don't want 6 or 10 spots in that little line, that could cause a major failure.

The R32, R33, and R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R all use the same wheel studs. However the front and rear sizes are different.

OEM front stud - 43222-28B10
OEM rear stud - 43222-50J00

Front is 14.3 mm diameter at the knurl (0.565 inch)
Rear is 13.0 mm diameter at the knurl  (0.511 inch)
Where A is the length, and B is the diameter

NISMO has two different part numbers depending on stud length.



The ARP's will work in the front. If you enlarged the rear holes, then you could also use them on the rear.

A lot of people here in the USA are looking for ways around the importing laws.  They want to find a loophole, a way to import a car and drive it here in the US. The thing is, the laws are pretty well defined.


  1. State Titled Cars are Not Federally Legal
  2. There are No Loopholes
  3. Getting around the laws, would normally be called illegal

People conveniently don't follow laws when the laws don't suit them. Their feeling is they are doing no harm, leave me alone. Their attitude is often, "none of your business." They would be wrong on both counts.


We are not fans of the laws, if there were legal ways around the current regulations, we would have found them. While the laws work for and against us, doing illegal things, is still illegal, no matter how much you think it is ok. Our biggest issue isn't the first guy that imports the car. It is the 2nd or 3rd guy. The guy that has no reason to believe the car was illegally imported. That guy, he is the guy that gets screwed when the car is seized. The first guy got his money, and essentially scammed the 2nd or 3rd owner out of that money by selling an illegally imported car.

Under 49 U.S.C. § 30112(a), a person may not permanently import into the United States a motor vehicle manufactured after the date that an applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) takes effect unless the vehicle complies with the standard and is so certified by its original manufacturer. This prohibition applies to both new and used motor vehicles, but does not apply to motor vehicles that are at least 25 years old (based on the month and year of manufacture).

Air Conditioning, AC, Heater Troubleshooting, and Diagnosis for Nissan Skyline GT-R


Old cars.  R32 Nissan Skyline are old cars. 25, 27, maybe 30 years old by the time you get around to needing this guide. Parts don't last forever.   The cars all used R12 refrigerant, which you know is harder to get than legal cocaine. R12 has been phased out of the US since 1996. It was replaced with R134a, which now seems like it might also be ending life on earth, so something new will probably be the latest greatest refrigerant that doesn't kill everyone in a week.

A/C systems are fairly complex, as they have a lot of parts. They are mechanical, electronic, and they have gases under high pressure.  They really aren't for the novice to automotive repair.  Generally we would recommend taking the car to an A/C repair shop to discharge, or recharge the system. While the Nissan Skyline may never have been sold in the US, the parts of the system are very similar to other models sold in the US.

Diagnosis

The first thing to try, is just cycling the unit. Turn it on, go from heat, to A/C and change the recirc settings. See if this frees anything up. Sometimes the doors stick, and just cycling it will help to make everything work again.

Nissan Skyline GT-R : Installing a New Radio or Stereo or Headunit




While the magical sound of the RB26dett may be the only noise you need, the real life means I like a radio.  Our R32 GT-R had a Japanese Mini disc player head unit, that only picked up Radio Disney in the US(different frequencies 76-90ish).   Best Buy had a Pioneer headunit for $65, or right around $70 with tax. Very basic. I am well over my big stereo phase.

MotoRex Years : The End : The Letter


MotoRex.

There is so much bad, and false information out there about MotoRex, it is nearly comical.  Even people that were pretty close to MotoRex, have some bad information, or really can't remember things as it happened.

As you can see in the above picture, MotoRex with JK Technologies did actually crash test cars. Other than MotoRex very few other entities ever crash tested a car.

Originally VCP-17 covered 1990-1999 Nissan Skylines, but that was partially rescinded to only cover 1996-1998 Nissan Skylines as VCP-32.

In the end, there were a lot of vehicles that were stuck. The owners of the vehicles had contracted with MotoRex, and the vehicles were brought into the US on good faith they would be brought into compliance.  The NHTSA allowed all these vehicles to be bond released in March 2006. That letter from the NHTSA is below.
