R's Day 2024 - Laguna Seca Prep

R's Day 2024 was May 26th at Laguna Seca. It was a great fun event. However getting ready for an event takes a lot of time and effort. Figure at least 40 hours of prep for every hour of track time.  This year, we were trying to prep four cars for the event. Brian's car, Ernie's car, the Nismo, and a red R32 that Taka was driving.

Four cars takes a lot of time. Plus we wanted to lean on Brian's car a bit harder. We had two OS88 with emotional difficulties(see this post).  As always still real work, cars to sell, and life to manage.

Brian's engine, all together and running fine. Lets take it out and change a bunch of things! March 20th

We put the vented hood from Seibon on Brians car. Cooling is so important for a track car. So important here in SoCal
Vented Seibon hood for R32 GT-R. One of several styles they have
KTS R32 stock airbox hardpipe kit. Its a tough fit, but helps with the rear turbo inlet collapsing.
Ernie removing a perfectly good engine, so we can change some things.  April 9th

One RB26 on a stand, and our third favorite Korean
I bought these quick release for Brian's splitter. They ended up working out nicely. April 10th.

A normal photo, Ernie working, me taking selfies.

You can see with a factory inlet pipe, how close it sits to the outlet of the front turbo on an RB26dett April 11th

OEM turbo outlet tubes on N1 turbos. You can see these are the small or narrow 02 sensors.

We were going to swap Brian's rear subframe for an S14 one, but we ran out of time

Checklists are important. You get tired, you forget things. I like paper and pen.

OS88 broken down, mostly.

The back of a "stock RB 26. There is one water line, two air lines. One was looking a bit crusty April 10th

Long nose injectors. the small tube is used for the factory boost gauge. Just the gauge, the ECU doesn't see boost from the factory

You can see the collector at the top, the rear disconnected line is for factory boost control. You can also see the AAC, or idle control box. Under that is the OEM oil pressure sensor. The braided line is for the cooler/remote oil filter locator.

Nismo collector, Midori fuel rail. Nismo adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Stock cam gears

Stock cam gears. Adding cam gears and adjusting them(KEY) can gain you lots of power in the midrange.

Super rare photo of Brian, working on his own car

Since we added aero, and went up on nearly everything, we got new coil overs from Meister R. More spring.

Those weekend days and nights at the shop

More pieces came out of that transmission than should have

Its together again!

Pressure testing newly assembled braided hoses. I have had some come apart before. I don't want that to happen again.
