How to Make an AWD Mustang In 20 Minutes! - American GT-R Ep 26 - Project Traction-AWD S550 Mustang

Sometimes those YouTube suggestions come back with gold, and in this case an AWD Mustang that was inspired by Nissan Skyline GT-R.  Fabrication is not my thing, but seeing what this guy did to his Mustang, makes me want to figure out how to stick two pieces of metal together, better. TR6060 transmission to a Borg Warner transfer from a Charger, to a Toyota front diff.  I can't agree to the supercharger over a turbo, but he seems like a smart guy, I think he will figure out a turbo is the way to go on this beast.  At the bottom some of my thoughts about swapping R32/R33 hydraulic transfer control to electronic.

This episode covers the complete build up to this point, combining all of the information from the first 24 episodes into 20 minutes.  Basically, how to turn a Coyote powered S550 Mustang GT into an American GT-R!

It covers the fabrication of the following parts:
The Transmission and transfer case adapter
The AWD front spindles
The front Differential
The modified oil pan to adapt the differential
The Front crossmember
The jack shaft and custom front CV axles

The transmission started out as a GT500 TR6060 which is similar to a Tremec T56 Magnum.

The transfer case is a BW4440 from a Dodge Charger

The front differential is from a Toyota pickup

Now the goal is to make the final axles and get this baby boosted by a supercharger by spring and hit the track!

The R32 and R33 Transmission and transfercase are very similar.  The R34 transfercase while looking and functioning similar is actually a little weaker than the R32/R33 transfercase.

So at one time, after looking and thinking about the GR6 in the R35, and being underneath my Infiniti FX45, I decided that putting a newer transfer case on an R32/R33/R34 might be possible.  I bought a used FX transfer case. I had R32/R33, R34, and RB25 Auto all wheel drive transfercases as we do when we work on these cars for nearly 20 years.

The reason for trying it was pretty simple. Eliminate the electrical to hydraulic to mechanical that is the ATTESA system in the R32/R33?R34.  By using the direct control of a solenoid you could speed the reaction time of the system up significantly.  However once I got the transfers apart, there were a few challenges that I didn't feel like tackling at that time.

HPR does a kit that will adapt the 8HP70 to the Infiniti transfer.  They say its stronger, 4kg lighter, and direct control with pwm.   https://www.gtrusablog.com/2018/06/nissan-skyline-gt-r-attesa-all-wheel.html
