Everyone that deals with Nissan Skyline, and RB engines knows of the current struggles of getting good blocks. New blocks while in theory available through Nissans Heritage parts program, are few and far between. Several company's that we know, that were planning on engine programs, had to scale back because of limited availability.
Now there are used blocks, but cracks, and cracking can be a problem. Often in the deck, sometimes on the hot side above the oil feed block, we see coolant leaks.
Billet aluminum blocks are an option, but they aren't for the faint of heart or wallet. Plus for a street car, billet is not the best material. For a race car its great, its lighter, stronger, but the expansion qualities, and clearances required vary greatly with temperature.
PRP have been working on a cast iron replacement block for the RB. This video shows the first straight out of the foundry testers. These need to be cleaned up and machined, but its good to see them in this form.
@Platinumracingproducts have been working on a Rb26 cast block for a while now, and the first full size prototypes have come out of the mould, so we thought we would give everyone an update on progress.
