R34 GT-R Front Bumper and Lower Lip or Lower front diffuser

The R34 has color matched lower and middle part of the front lip. They did not come color matched from the factory. 

The R34 GT-R has a multi piece front bumper/lip/diffuser assembly. Along with the front bumper itself, you have a section with brake ducts in it, and then a lower undertray/diffuser that is multi part.

Another day, another week, another Nissan Heritage Parts Program press release about parts we can't get in the US or anywhere else.  The Heritage Parts Program is great, it would be great if that support extended to the rest of the world.  Recently I talked about 3d printing parts, like a Figaro radio knob, its exciting stuff. This harness cover, well they did their best with this picture.   The press release is below

SOLIZE Corporation and HP Inc. continuing their long-standing partnership to advance digital manufacturing, announced the joint development and on-demand production of discontinued replacement parts for Nissan’s NISMO Heritage Parts program. The two companies are the first to design and manufacture 3D-printed replacement parts for NISMO enthusiasts.

After working with Nissan to identify ideal parts for 3D production, SOLIZE then partnered with HP to optimize design and manufacture high-quality commercial parts, taking advantage of the advanced capabilities provided by HP’s Multi Jet Fusion platform. The first part identified for restoration using 3D printing is a plastic part of the harness protector for the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R. The part is produced using HP High Reusability PA 11 which provides high mechanical properties and design flexibility.

Rebuilding Supply Chains with Sustainable Production

To facilitate repairs and parts replacement, automobile manufacturers are required to provide replacement parts for their products over extended periods of time. Producing or storing parts for vehicles that have been discontinued, upgraded, or overhauled can be challenging and expensive as manufacturers must retain molds and manage inventory storage and logistics.

Digital manufacturing and 3D printing enable flexible design and just-in-time 3D production for virtual inventory that meets the demand for complex parts while reducing costs. In addition, sustainable on-demand 3D production contributes to the reduction of industrial waste and carbon dioxide emissions throughout the product life cycle.

Where Can I Buy Parts For My JDM Car : Parts for Nissan Skyline : Shared Parts

There are a lot of parts on JDM vehicles that are unique.  Some parts are special, some parts are discontinued, or no longer available.   In the US, a manufacturer only generally supports a platform for about 7-10 years.  We are lucky with some cars, as parts are carried over through the years, or shared on other platforms.  Some examples of parts bin sharing

Nissan FAST EPC

Some information about Nissan part numbers, and Nissan FAST.  Nissan FAST is the dealer parts ordering system.  Nissan FAST diagrams use a part identifier in their diagrams. This identifier is not the part number. It can be even not that close to the part number, so it's again, just an identifier.

The first 5 digits are the lookup code.   The next digits, tell you generally what car it was for.  Some parts like N1 parts, are normally 24U.  Early GT-R stuff was often 05U parts. Then the last couple digits can/will show supersession. Perhaps there was a supplier change or update.  So an 01,03, 05 at the end show it's probably the latest version. 

When it comes to the Nissan Skyline GT-R, we first started dealing with the cars over 20 years ago.   The internet information, the English information was fairly non existent.  So what we did, was go to a parts store, get some parts for different Nissan cars, the cross over books, sat on the floor, and started trying to figure out if there was anything sold in the US.

One of the first things we figured out was the oil filter.  The OEM RB26 oil filter is in a tough spot. The filter is a 3/4-16 thread.  Overall a ton of different cars use a similar thread, similar size and size. 15208-60U00  is the same as a 1990-1996 300ZX, and a 1991-1994 Maxima.

Change your fuel filter, if you don't know the last time you did, do it now

The next thing was the fuel filter.  It looked the same as a 300ZX, but the 300ZX filter was straight through, where the GT-R one had a 90 degree fitting at the outlet.  So once again back on the floor, turns out it was the same as a 1996 Infiniti J30, 1993-1996 Nissan Altima, 1992-1997 Nissan Pickup, 1990-1996 Nissan Stanza - 16400-72L00

Anyway, you get the point.  There are many parts that are actually used, shared, upgraded, or superseded over the years. 

Nissan FAST.  If you have FAST, and you go to "Parts Master" and input a part number, like 16400-72L00, it will spit out all the cars that use that part. 

This is a partial list, you can see all the chassis numbers in the 2nd column. Years next, engine/model next.  

You can also go to Alternate Parts Info in FAST, aka Supersession chain, enter that same number, and see what new part numbers show up.  16400-72L00

The old part number is 16400-72L00, superseded by 16400-72L05 or 16400-53J10

There are even parts that we see used in other brands of cars. Nissan and Subaru share a lot of bits and pieces.   Some parts that are shared, between different years, or different models, have one small change that makes it a part number. One good example is a AC dryer. The Nissan Skyline has a unique part number. However it is because the Nissan Skyline dryer comes with the bracket and pressure switch.  If you swap those parts over you, can find one that will work, here in the US. 

The Holden Ute, when it got here as I was looking it over, I pulled the panel air filter out to have a look at it, guess what, it looked really, really familiar.   Turns out it looks familiar, because it is the same filter as used in the 1989-2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R, and a ton of other Nissans.   Parts bin.

Getting more generic, if you are creative enough, you can fit things like brakes, clutches, wheels, suspension parts between a ton of cars.  Sometimes you don't know how similar two parts are, until you have them both laying on the bench, then it all starts to make sense.

This is the first detailed announcement about the NISMO heritage parts program for the R32 GT-R with dates and part numbers.  Even though the R32 GT-R is over 25 years old, the popularity of the car has increased over the last few years. As the US market allows vehicles over 25 years old to be imported, exempt from FMVSS requirements, the desire to restore the cars has been seen in many circles.

Nissan Motorsport International Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tsurumi-ku, Yokohama-shi, President: Takao Katagiri, hereinafter Nismo) will release NISMO Heritage Part for Skyline GT-R (BNR 32). (Shipment start: December 1 and others)

"NISMO Heritage", Nissan Motor, Nismo, Autech (Nismo · Cars Division), and three parties and suppliers jointly reviewed the re-supply of parts that were discontinued, the customer is a little Nissan performance car Even so we support activities to the extent possible to keep riding long.

As the first step of this activity, among the genuine Nissan parts that have already been abandoned by dedicated parts of the Skyline GT-R (BNR 32), we will focus on important parts essential for running and vehicle inspection, harnesses, hoses / tubes , Emblems, exterior parts etc. from Nismo who has been in contact with customers of the Skyline GT-R for many years.

We will continue to consider adding items of type R32 and expanding to R33 and R34 type GT-R.
