How Much Does a Stock R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R Wheel Weigh?

Last time we weighed a stock 16x 8+30 R32 GT-R wheel.   This time we weigh a R33 GT-R 17x 9 +30 wheel.  The R32 GT-R wheel weighed 17 lbs.  Any guesses to the R33 wheel weight?

RB26 Split Air Pipe Service - Divided Twin Turbo Pipe

Split Twin Turbo Pipes by

Alex Rodriguez Split Twin Turbo Pipe service.  Alex does the best work around on these pipes.   Why do you want to put a divider in the twin turbo pipe?
"
$180 no core -send me yours I modify and ship back-takes the longest
$220 modified y-pipe ready to bolt on. Core required. Ships immediately..

I have tried to source Y-pipes here so you guys are not going days without yours cars. Unfortunately the prices some guys are selling them won’t allow me to even sell the service.
Once I get the pipe give me 24-48hrs to do the service and ship back. Yes I cover shipping back to you.
The Y-pipe gets cut completely in half. I weld the plate between and reshape the coupler sealing area. After it’s done i sandblast it ,solvent wash, and clean the with acetone. Finally give it a fresh coat of VHT aluminum."

Oil Cooler : Nissan Skyline GT-R 2018 Upgrades

R34 GT-R, C-West bumper, ARC oil cooler

Its a good idea if you are going to go on a track, or do any high speed driving with the car to put an external oil cooler on the car. On a track, it only takes a few laps in cool outside temps to get the oil temps above the 110C range. As important as the cooler itself, is the ducting to and through the cooler core.

We bolded and underlined that last line, because it is very important. If you look at any modern car, or look at any kind of race car, ducting in and out of the core of a cooler is managed. Air is lazy. It takes the path of least resistance. Since you bought the cooler, you want the air packed at the front of it to pass though the core, not pass around it. By adding proper ducting, the air will pass though the core, raising efficiency tremendously.

More oil cooler information.

We had this question recently, what is out there as a kit for a BNR32 Nissan Skyline GT-R.  So lets see.  With an oil cooler you want the largest lines possible. You want the least amount of 90 degree fittings possible.  Steel braided lines, and a remote oil filter mounts are big pluses.  If you don't want to make up your own kit, here are a few off the shelf that you can buy

HKS Type S Oil cooler kit for Nissan Skyline GT-R (mount your oil cooler with the fittings up)

HKS Type S Oil Cooler Kit
  • 15 row cooler
  • Thermostat
  • Mounting location: Left inner fender
  • -12 AN fittings and Lines
  • Air guides(important to improve cooler efficiency.
  • Cost - Around $1100

Greddy 13 row oil cooler kit

Greddy 13 row oil cooler kit (Fender)
  • 13 Row NS1310G
  • Thermostat Type: In center block
  • -10AN fittings and lines
  • Mounting location: Core: Left inner fender
  • Fender protector and bumper modification needed
  • Cost - About $1200
13 row is not a huge oil cooler, but the biggest offered by Greddy. This kit has the remote mount, and mounting for the oil cooler itself.

  • 10 Rows NS1010G
  • Thermostat Type: In center block
  • Mounting location: In front of radiator
  • Cost - About $750

Other Options:

1) Make your own oil cooler kit.  You need a core, fittings, and a filter adaptor. It is not a difficult thing, but once you piece one together, you realize how expensive it can be.  Don't buy a shitty core. Buy a Setrab oil cooler core.  Use -12 AN fittings and line. Use the least number of 90 degree fittings possible. Try and duct air through the core, that is in and out.

2) Used oil coolers.  Buying a used oil cooler, is kind of like buying used underwear.  Some people are into that, but you want to make sure you clean them really well before you use them.  An ultrasonic cleaning, of the oil cooler, not the underwear, is in order.  A perfect example of a unique setup is the ARC below.

ARC Oil cooler kit

ARC Oil Cooler

  • No longer available new
  • Mounts behind grill
    • Advantage it is in a safe position, and gets lots of cool air
    • Disadvantage it heats the air going to condenser, and the radiator
  • Mad JDM points
  • Cost - About $2000

NISMO oil cooler condensor mount
  • No longer available new
  • The AC condenser gets smaller, and the cooler is part of the assembly
    • Advantage it is in a safe position and gets lots of cool air
    • Disadvantage, your AC might not work as well
    • Cost - Good luck finding one. But in the Japanese auctions around $1500

Turbolag : RB26DETT

This is some old information. Will clean it up later. Just moving it from an even older site.

The perception of turbo lag as it relates to RB26 powered vehicles. The dyno charts shown below are in no means scientific. They are done on different days, different cars, different setups. What we are looking at is overall ideas.

On this setup lets look at some horsepower levels and corresponding rpms. I want to start most at around 3000 rpms as thats where we start most of our Dynapack runs.
Looking at the blue stock line on these runs 8 psi on stock turbos, stock engine
3000 rpms 80 whp
3500 rpms 110 whp
4000 rpms 150 whp
4500 rpms 180 whp
5000 rpms 200 whp
5500 rpms 220 whp
6000 rpms 225 whp
6500 rpms 230 whp
7000 rpms 230 whp
7500 rpms 225 whp

This chart is a stock turbo car, with the boost cranked way up... 25 psi. Big dip is a boost cut.
3000 rpms 125 whp
3500 rpms 175 whp
4000 rpms 250 whp
4500 rpms 300 whp
5000 rpms 340 whp
5500 rpms 360 whp
6000 rpms 400 whp
6500 rpms 410 whp
7000 rpms 400 whp
7500 rpms 390 whp

Next is a N1 - AA403 car. On good fuel, otherwise fairly stock. Boost max of 23 psi. Tapering off in the upper rev range down to about 20 psi.
3000 rpms 155 whp
3500 rpms 200 whp
4000 rpms 260 whp
4500 rpms 320 whp
5000 rpms 390 whp
5500 rpms 420 whp
6000 rpms 430 whp
6500 rpms 450 whp
7000 rpms 420 whp
7500 rpms 405 whp

Same engine as above, but a swap over to "special Nismo turbos". Best I can tell by looking at charts and measuring them, is a HKS 2510 turbo equivalent.
3000 rpms 150 whp
3500 rpms 175 whp
4000 rpms 220 whp
4500 rpms 300 whp
5000 rpms 410 whp
5500 rpms 480 whp
6000 rpms 515 whp
6500 rpms 530 whp
7000 rpms 530 whp
7500 rpms 525 whp
Now the comparisions

Barely Legal R32 GT-R and Pao on Hoonigan Daily Transmission : #Bluecar

https://www.hoonigan.com/ On today's episode of Daily Transmission, Nads brings in Sean Morris who shows us how to legally import unique JDM cars into the states the right way.
Made a little bit of a mess
Our old friend, wait. He isn't that old. Or maybe he is. Anyway, John Naderi invited us out to a Hoonigan Daily Transmission.  Since we needed to bring something that we could "scumbag" in, we decided to bring the #bluecar.  Not driven much since R's Day, it got moved from Cypress, to the Hanger, to my house. Still had more than 1/2 a tank of race gas, and good tires.

The one thing I wanted to try was a center spin. Not much space at Hoonigan, with the car on 1 bar of boost, 275 RE71R all around, plus the grip there, I had them put some water down to try and help me out a bit.

The first time, I got it center spinning fairly decently, but ran out of room. The 2nd time was a bit more like a donut than a center spin, but during it, I managed to tap the dock with the exhaust. Results of that below.

May have tapped the ramp

Wore a little bit of RE71R off the #bluecar

The RE71R picked up a bit of rubber from Hoonigan

R32, R33, R34 Brembo Brakes : Brake Upgrades : Brake Downgrades

Brakes:  Overlooked by most.  Sort of important if you want your car to stop.  Also important, tires, but this post is about brakes. We have an entire post on the Sumitomo brakes that came standard on the R32 GT-R.  I realized that I have not put much specific brake information about the Brembo brakes that come on the R32 Vspec and Vspec II , R33, and R34 GT-R.  There are also upgrade brake kits such as the F40 (343 mm), F50(355 mm), and R35(380mm) calipers and rotors, which are popular swaps for these cars.

How to Identify Your Brakes:

This is important. With cars that are over 25 years old, there is no telling what brakes are actually on the car. Even though it "should" be something, or seems like something, it might not be.

1. Remove brake pad and trace the outline from one pad.  This will give you a shape that almost any decent race brake shop can identify.

2. Measure rotor diameter and thickness- front and rear
  • Std Brembo rotors are 324 x 30 mm front
  • Std Brembo rotors are 300 x 22 mm rear
  • Vspec N1 Brembo rotors are 322 x 22 rear

Without doing this, you really are just guessing.

R34 Brembo Brakes (Gold) 4 pot/piston.
The R32 Vspec and Vspec II got a brake upgrade in the form of Brembo calipers, and larger rotors front and rear.  324mm x 30 mm Brembo front vs a 296 mm x 32 mm Sumitomo/Nissan front.
