Nissan Skyline and GT-R Brochures, Manuals, and Documentation

I was looking for the English version of the R33 service manual, and I came across this site with pdf's of a lot of Skyline and Skyline GT-R manuals, brochures, and documentation.  R32 GT-R, NISMO, Vspec II, LM Edition, 400R, and more. forum for discussion about importing vehicles over 25 years old to the US.

Croydon Wholesalers Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Nitrous Issue

I like nitrous. Fun stuff. Makes fast cars go faster. Makes slow cars go faster. The first time I used it on a car, made it seem like someone added an extra turbo to the mix. Its also a little on the dangerous side.In this picture, the Croydon Wholesalers R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R just had a nitrous issue. From what I heard, the linelock button was next to the nitrous button, and instead of linelock, the engine got a large spray of nitrous and fuel at idle, causing what we call combustion. This happened on the wrong side of the throttle blades, and hurt a lot of parts.

This car did get reparied and went 8.55@165 on DOT tires in Australia. Making it one of the quickest Nissan Skyline GT-R's in the world. forum for discussion about importing vehicles over 25 years old to the US.

Big Stuff 3 EFI Controllers from John Meany

Pretty cool article about John Meany and his Big Stuff EFI controllers. This guy was at the forefront of EFI, worked for GM and Bosch, and developed some of the first aftermarket controllers . Good read, check out the article.  The next big thing in fueling is direct injection. I would love to do some development with an aftermarket DI setup on older engines. I am sure that we will see some adaption of a 350 Chevy head and piston to work with DI.  Obviously my favorite engine is the RB26, and direction injection could do some cool stuff. Better MPG, less emissions, more power on crappier fuel.  Not sure about crazy horsepower, but the diesel DI do well.

After college John took employment at UTC (United Technologies Corporation) in Michigan. UTC owned aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney and worked closely with GM, who was embarking on an ambitious program to create a replacement Bosch injector. “But when I realized the program wouldn’t get off the ground, I went to work for Bosch at their Farmington Hills location in Michigan.”
John did work on the 1985 Corvette TPI and the 1987 Buick Grand National engine controllers.

After that when the aftermarket came calling he helped develop DFI(ran one on my GMC Typhoon), FAST and now Big Stuff 3.

Suddenly the irrefutable potential for high performance aftermarket EFI systems was before him. He formed DFI (Digital Fuel Injection) which he later sold to Echlin, who marketed the product under Accel DFI. Then in the early nineteen-nineties Felpro called John about a transmission controller for the 4L60E transmission. These inquiries culminated in the EFI system known today as FAST, which was succeeded in 2004 or ’05 when John and his brothers formed Big Stuff 3.

Nissan Skyline GT-R Information Plate Breakdown - Model Codes

KBNR32RXFSL RA   - KH2(Gunmetal) RB26 - 2568cc - FS5R30A 5 speed
I think this information came out of a parts manual that I had. On the blue plate under the hood of a Nissan Skyline GT-R, there is a bunch of gibberish. Some people even write down the model information numbers as a VIN number. The chassis number on the above picture is BNR32-100500.  I have to go and find the rest/correct information for any of the other codes.

One of 198 Autech Nissan Skyline Sedans : RB26DE

Big Tom pointed this Yahoo auction out to me. This is one of those odd ones.  It lists the car as a 1992 Autech Nissan Skyline E-NRH32. All wheel drive. RB26DE. No TT. Normally aspirated. Automatic transmission. Four door. Supposedly one of 198 made. Its different. Probably sounds pretty good. An inline 6 has a sweet sound. The 86 mm bore x 73.7 mm stroke in the 2568 cc RB26 means that thing can rev.

RB26DE. Normally aspirated  220 PS
Its been repainted to EWO - Millenium Jade, one of the R34 colors, and it sports R33 GT-R wheels.  Its not old enough to come into the US yet for 25 years. Its not really historically significant enough for Show or Display. Its an odd one, but would be cool to have. Maybe in a few years. forum for discussion about importing vehicles over 25 years old to the US.

Nissan Skyline GT-R Key

A few months back I did a photo shoot and interview with Jacob Leveton for PAS Magazine about the NISMO R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R's I imported under Show or Display.

One small error. You don't need to bring in every car though a Registered Importer, just any car not over 25 years, or not under Show or Display. If the car is newer than 21 years, and coming in under Show or Display, you need an ICI.

You’ve become a bit of a guru on getting a car imported legally. In general, what does it take to bring a car into the U.S.?

You’ll need to bring any car in through a Registered Importer, which can bring it up to current Federal standards, but there are a several agencies you will need to be aware of, as each has its own requirements.
NISMO Optional Parts Catalog

How does the Show or Display exemption work?
If you can convince the NHTSA the car you're trying to import is historically- or technologically-significant and it agrees, you can bring it in for “show or display” purposes, drive it on public roads for up to 2,500 miles per year, etc. There are many rules around it too; production numbers typically have to be fewer than 500 produced. It’s basically referred to as a Bill Gates / Paul Allen rule. Those guys pushed the law through to make the Porsche 959 legal for import. If you want to get a law like this changed, you may need Bill Gates and Paul Allen money.
Other cars on the “Show or Display” exemption list include: the McLaren F1, Bugatti EB110, Ford RS200, BMW Z1, Mercedes CLK-GTR Roadster and Lamborghini Diablo GT. Each had to be requested by someone who wanted to bring the car into the US, and get it approved. If it’s less than 21 years old, still needs to meet emissions regulations, so it needs to be brought in by an ICI (Independent Commercial Importer) who will have to bring the car up to emissions specs.

Axeling and Spark Plugging

A couple weeks back, I removed the right side axle on the 1990 NISMO Nissan Skyline GT-R #500, and did some cleanup. Prior to the SoCal Nissan GT-R Invasion 2, I had to get the car back together and threw some new spark plugs in it.  As long as I was there, I figured it was a good time to trace down some oil leaks, and install the divided twin turbo pipe. Stock turbocharger compressor outlet gasket x 3 per car(you only need 1 if just doing the pipe) - 14465-05U11 or A4465-05U11

I should have ordered a coil harness before I took the car apart. As usual, the coil harness cooks in the engine valley, and it was a bit crispy. Ebay app on the phone ordered a harness, but it wouldn't make it in time.

Coil packs removed. The car had some Champion Iridium plugs in it

I like using T-handles on spark plugs. Keep you from putting too much torque on the plugs.

Water had collected around one plug at some point.
Car ran fine, but doesn't look that good

Cam cover removed

The engine had a slight leak that I wanted to fix. The screws holding the cam covers down were a little loose, but I wanted to pull the exhaust cam cover off to check out the 1/2 moon at the back of the head. Part number for the 1/2 moon - 11051-58S00

R34 GT-R ATTESA ETS-PRO Hydraulic Diagram

R34 GT-R ATTESA ETS-PRO Hydraulic Diagram

The R33 and R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R have what Nissan calls - A-LSD, or active limited slip differential  The lockup of the differential is controlled by the ATTESA system pump, and a solenoid. I have heard a lot of people say that it can control torque split from side to side however, there is nothing in the circuit hydraulically, or electrically that allows it to do this. It just controls diff lockup.

One hydraulic line to the A-LSD, one to the transfercase.

Broken Front Differential Oil Pan on an RB26

This is what can happen when you send too much power to the front differential of a Nissan Skyline GT-R.  Normally you just break the spider in the front OPEN differential. In this case here, this was just a mistake. The mechanic that swapped the engine, did not put any oil in the front differential. I found this out the hard way, on the drag strip at about 110 mph.  I did have to be restrained in the pits.

Cracked the case all the way though

Even from this angle, its still broken forum for discussion about importing vehicles over 25 years old to the US.

Taisan Group A Nissan Skyline GT-R

Group A Nissan Skyline GT-R  Chassis 91-001
Some people laughed at me, when I said I was going to look for a real Group A R32 for sale. Thanks to Mr. Pankew from Autoblog Canada, I found one. 1991 Taisan Group A R32. Raced 1991 in Group A.  Its listed on a for sale site, but no price.I am doing a little more work to see if I can get a price on it, hopefully something realistic.

According to the pictures this is 91-001. The first customer chassis for 1991. Looks like it would be fun to take out and do some historic racing.

From looking at the car in this post - this car here may have been a 1991-1992 only car, or one of the team cars. Often in racing, cars/chassis are replaced every year or two. .  There are a few differences. Wheels - SSR, the logos on the car are a little different. The gauges in the dash, and under the hood are different. Things get changed and refined during the racing season, and improvements are made. Tilton brake control, twin rear coolers, all things on what looks like the later car, are not on this early car.  Either way, real Group A car.
I wonder what the chassis number is under that plate?

It is the advent of R32 Gr.A GT-R.
Kunimitsu Takahashi said that the country 's and Mr. Keiichi Tsuchiya Dorikin that was driven, in which the GT-R that Taisan STP.
For the purpose of victory in the All Japan Touring Car Championship (Group A), R32 GT-R that appeared to be winning the race, group A specification is based on the GT-R Nismo commercial model made.
Koki Nissan Oppama charge, around the engine, 1990, the body and the drive system Gr.A GT-R NISMO made responsible for the suspension, from the Nismo with a price tag of 55 million yen been limited sales. Car its first becomes this vehicle.
This vehicle has began to compete in (JTC) All Japan Touring Car Championship from 1991 to 1993 will be the last year of Group A, played at Autopolis earnest desire to win the second leg.
To the extent that raced at fan events such as the Nismo Festival, and it seems to have a full restoration in the ALMS in 2000 NISMO Omori Factory.
Of course, starting from one engine still, stored motion.
Great car that was exploded the popular GT-R, moreover Kunimitsu Takahashi / Tsuchiya Keiichi probably quite a few fans ran hot with that name combination is still burned into my mind.
This vehicle with a history such a wonderful, of course, GT-R fans will be unbearable gem to Facebook fan and fan Dorikin country.
