Fontana Nissan 5 Meet : Auto Club Speedway with the NISMO Nissan Skyline GT-R

This last Sunday September 8th, took #500 out to Auto Club Speedway for a Speedventures event at the Fontana Nissan 5 Meet. There were lots of GT-R guys with their cars. It was a hot day- about 100F, so the car wouldn't last long before it got very hot. So even with the heat, it was still a fun day. More pictures and videos later.

It was a hot day(99F) at the track, so the old girl didn't take long until she overheated. Put some heat in the brakes. Even at over 300 engine horsepower, just doesn't stand a chance to the R35 GT-R in a straight line, although with the R888 all around, the R32 has decent cornering, and exit from the corners."

Trying out the Race Render software, and it is pretty nice. Used the trial for this. The MPH gauge lost the third digit on the render. Have to figure out how to fix that. Also the acceleration sensor is flipped. Probably something I need to fix in the G-Tech Software. http://www.racerender.com/RR2/Features.html . Overall it was easy to use, and I will buy the Deluxe version of the software.

Using the G Tech Fanatic RR to gather the data. Nice unit that will show you your lap times, and segment times. http://www.gtechpro.com/rr_fanatic.html. Its a $300 box that along with the Fanatic PASS software gives you some in-expensive data logging capabilities.

Irwindale Thursday Night 1/8th Mile Drag Racing 5-16-13

A few of the local SoCal Nissan GT-R owners headed over to Irwindale Event Center for some 1/8th mile drag racing Thursday 5-16-13. There are not a lot of local drag strips in LA. Pomona 1/4 Mile drag strip is just about off limits to street cars due to neighbor complaints.

Fontana - Auto Club Speedway Dragstrip was also shut down by some of its neighbors complaining. The drag strip runs alongside a set of train tracks. Nothing even that loud runs at the drag strip. Typical whiners that move in next to a racetrack or airport and complains. The latest from July says they are going to install a sound wall to appease the "group of concerned citizens." Hopefully they open the 1/4 mile up again soon. The closest place to run a quarter mile now is Bakersfield. Check out some photos from last night.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (July 31, 2012) – “The Auto Club Speedway has reached a settlement with a local group of concerned citizens in the San Bernardino County area known as CCoMPRESS, represented by Chatten-Brown & Carstens related to the operation of the Auto Club Dragway. As a result, the Auto Club Speedway may resume operations at the Auto Club Dragway if it first complies with a series of requirements intended to mitigate the environmental impacts to the surrounding community, including construction of a soundwall.”

NASA Auto Club Speedway March 3, 2013

Cars lined up to go out on track

Yesterday, I was out at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana for a NASA event. Along with HPDE(High Perforamance Driver Education) they had several race groups from Spec Miata, and Spec E30, to Super Unlimited cars. Dan had the DG Spec Lotus Elise out. Its a great little track car. It doesn't use much of anything, brake, tire, or fuel. Out on track its really stable, and my best word to describe a ride around the track was "comfortable." It didn't wiggle and squirm around like most street cars. It went where it was supposed to go. Dan managed a couple of 1:59 laps, so we were also pretty happy with the cars performance. Some pictures from the NASA event at Auto Club Speedway this Saturday. I was out with Dan from DG Spec in the Lotus Elise. The GTS race had a pretty good battle between an E46 M3, and a Toyota Supra. The Supra is pretty big power and would tear past the M3 on the long Roval, but get caught up under brakes and the infield. It came down to the last lap, and the last few feet of track where the Supra made the final pass. Back to the track tomorrow for another day at the track.
