VIN Swap R34. MotoRex R33 VIN on an R34 GT-R

BCNR33-004616 which should be a 1995 R33 GT-R

So far two different people have asked me about this car, so it is time to put up a post, and explain what we have here.

This car popped up on an auto dealer website in Atlanta.  The car is listed as a 1999 Nissan Skyline, which is how it looks in the pictures.  However the VIN or chassis number they list is for an R33 GT-R, which were produced from 1995 to 1998.  So what is going on here?

The description.

This is not an R33 GT-R.

Even though we don't have BCNR33-004616 in our MotoRex list of vehicles, it is possible that this is a MotoRex car.  We have also seen forged MotoRex documents. The thing to do is call the NHTSA at (202)366-5291 to get a copy of the bond release.

One huge red flag here.  Someone has taken an R34 GT-R, and put an R33 VIN on it. So even if the actual VIN is correct, and a MotoRex car, it has been swapped.  And not just swapped or rebodied on another R33, but they used an R34.  This always calls into question of how this body/car was imported, if it is stolen, etc.  Without the original VIN number, there is no way to tell, and police agencies should treat this vehicle as stolen, per the NHTSA(see above).

If it was a crashed MotoRex car and rebodied, then why are these guys selling it as "no accidents." There is more to this story, and for a $135k car, you really don't want any shady stories.

Can I have two VIN's on my car, or a VIN that does not meet NHTSA requirements?

At $135,000 for this vehicle, we highly recommend staying away from it.  While it might have correct paperwork for an R33 GT-R, everything else about it is wrong.
