Brand New 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R Vspec II Nur sells for 35,200,00 Yen

2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R Vspec II Nur

edit - 35,200,000 yen including buyer premium. $317,000 USD

A brand new, as in 10km R34 GT-R Vspec II Nur sold at BH Auction in Japan for ~~32,000,000 yen(~$288,000).~~ That is not 10k km, but 6.2 mile car.

BNR 34 type which is the final evolution model of the second generation GT - R was first demonstrated at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 1999. In the full model change from the big hit BNR 32 to the predecessor BCNR 33, I was criticized for the bigger body, the weight increase, etc., BNR 34 made a slimmer. Compared to BCNR 33, the length is reduced by 75 mm and the wheel base by 55 mm. At the same time, the whole width was expanded by 5 mm, and exercise performance was improved.
Although the engine is a traditional RB 26 DETT, the point is that the turbine bearing has been changed from a metal type to a ball bearing type. This has the internet all ablaze today. 15 years newer. We think the HP might be a little high on the R34, the weight low. The 1/4 mile time low, they will do low 13's. Top Speed is about right, they are a aerodynamic brick stock.

8000 rpm for the RB26 vs 6600 for the Ecoboost 4 cylinder. The inline 6 will always be smoother and sound better.

File this one in the insane file. Sure a Nur is a rare car. 750 cars. Millennium Jade- according to the GT-R Registry - 156 cars.

However this car is not a good example. 337,000 km. Thats 209,000 miles. Which for a car in Japan, seems like it should be a million here. The car needed an engine rebuild, had some rust, had burn holes in the seats. In other words, it was a bit beat.

Sold for 7.065 million yen at auction. Or depending on the exchange rate about $65,000.

So anyone want to bet that R34 GT-R's won't be $100k in the US in 2024?

R32 GT-R at Nurburgring

The Nissan Skyline GT-R has been running at the Nurburgring since the early 90's as a bench mark of handling. The unofficial quick time of the R32 GT-R was 8:22.

The R33 GT-R tackled the 'ring in 1995, and Nissan came out swinging big with a 7:59. The first "production" car to run under a 8 minute time at the circuit.

Nissan Skyline GTR R34 Nur Meet

There were a total of 12175 R34 GT-R's produced from 1999-2002. Of those 12175 cars, 750 of them were Vspec II Nur's, and 250 of them were Mspec Nur's.

Nur is short for Nurburgring, and a special "final" edition of the Nissan Skyline GT-R. In this video 5 Nur's from Western Australia get together.

This is pretty cool. Great way to use some of what is availalbe now, to make some great footage. Helicopters, planes, and blimps have been used for years for sports coverage. Now with the advent of cheap planes, cheap cameras, and in some cases even live streaming, get some new views and new takes on events.

This video was produced by German firm Kippenberger, which is looking to bring affordable airborne videos to ze German car scene. Renting a helicopter for the day can cost up to $50,000 before the red tape of arranging air space permits. Drones could be flying at Cars and Coffee tomorrow.

"I am interested in the new wave of car filming similar to what Brainfarm did for snowboarding," Kippenberger tells Jalopnik. "I believe it is time to start rethinking how to bring car visuals like Intersection did for print. There are few guys out there doing it — tangentvector is one of them — they inspire me to break free for the shackles of Top Gear thinking, which is basically a tv format from yesteryear, and go for some newer ideas."

This might be the rumored SpecR version of the Nissan GT-R. A replacement of the Nissan GT-R SpecV, or perhaps a foreshadowing of the actual 2013 car. The rumors say that the 2013 car gets a mild power bump. Maybe 550 hp from the 2012 Nissan GT-R 530 hp? How fast will it go on the ring? Nissan might be dragging out some real R-compound tires to find out.

SpecM Nissan GT-R at Nurburgring

Nissan has been using the Nurburgring to tune its vehicles for several decades. The R35 GT-R’s second home has become Nurburgring. These videos show a disguised 2011 Japan Spec M undergoing testing. The Spec M has several pieces from the Spec V, the brake ducts in the front lip, the wheels. The suspension is supposed to be softer and closer to a Spec “Man”, not a boy racer model. Expect to see interior upgrades, and a pretty hefty price tag. Not likely to show up in the US, and with the current Japanese GT-R market, we will have to see how it will sell there.

The 2010 Nissan GT-R is currently at Nurburgring with the Spec V for more testing and lap times. Nissan has done several improvements for 2010 and they have picked up quiet a bit of time. 11 seconds under their previous best. I wonder what the Spec V will run ?

If it weren't for Gran Turismo, Sony PlayStation's ground-breaking driving simulation game, it's doubtful the Skyline GT-R ever would have leapt from relative obscurity so rapidly. PlayStation gave us the chance to drive the GT-R at the Nürburgring, and we soon learned about Nissan's semi-covert quest to conquer the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the Skyline GT-R.

Well I am not sure about Gran Turismo being the seed, but it did help.Option videos , magazine articles , and the games did help in the rest of the world.

The Lexus LF-A has lapped the famous Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 24 seconds, beating the Porsche GT2 by one second. The beastly Lexus is expected to have a 5.0 liter unit that produces 500 horsepower with a top speed of 200mph. A hybrid variant is also in the work that will use a engine similar to the LS600h.
