Group A Centerlock Magnesium Volk Wheels on the scale

This set of Group A centerlocks came up many years ago. Old magnesium is always a bit dubious. It cracks, it can corrode.  Either way, they will look cool if I ever figure out, or buy some proper hubs. 

On the scale these 18 x 10 wheels weigh 20.88 lbs each.  Two of them are currently being used as coffee tables in the lobby of Toprank Importers.

How much would you pay for a set of wheels?

Nismo LMGT4 Limited II GT500 for sale

These LMGT4's are cool wheels.  They look like a JGTC centerlock wheel, but are a normal 5 lug 114.3 center to center bolt pattern.  Supposedly only 200 sets of these wheels in black.    We had a couple of cars with the grey set on them, one of them was missing the caps.  On wheels like this the caps and accessories are very important to value. 

Set of pre-owned restored Nismo LM-GT4 Black Limited II GT500 measuring 18"X9.5+12. There are only 200 units produced and are extremely hard to come by.

HFM Parts from Australia makes some interesting products. When we saw they were producing some 18 x 9 +25 R32 GT-R wheels, we wanted to get a set to try out.  The OEM 16 inch wheels are cool, but for someone wanting an OEM look with a little more, these are a great option.

Of course anytime you do something unique as this, you get everyone's opinion on offset, size, and width. Having worked on this platform for more than 20 years, an 18 x 9 +25 is slightly more aggressive than an OEM R34 wheel.  An 18 inch wheel gives you a ton of tire options that will fit well on an R32 GT-R.  Once you roll fenders, or have to clearance anything under the car, you are limiting what some people are willing to do to the car.

That perspective looks slightly weird, but these wheels from HFM Parts in Australia came out awesome.  Lots of people love the look of the OEM 16 inch wheel. These wheels don't have the same provision for the OEM cap, but it does fit, and we are figuring out the best way to attach them to the wheels. 

These came in yesterday, and we will get them mounted up with a set of tires and onto a few different color R32 GT-R.

Do R35 Brakes Clear Stock R34 Wheels?

There are questions that I have, that I know that I may be the only one that either cares or knows. This was one of those. I was wondering if stock R34 18 x 9 +30 wheels would clear R35 brakes.  The R35 brakes I have are later so they are 390 mm vs 380 mm of the earlier car.  

The 390 mm rotors really aren't going to work in the stock R34 wheel. I don't think I can grind, space, or offset anything enough to work. A 380 mm may get me a bit closer, but a 370mm if it existed would. Im not done trying to make this work. I need to find one of my 380 mm rotors, and check that out.

bluecar March 2021

Its March 2021. Still working on the bluecar. Still tinkering with things.   Got some things coming up with it.  Still sorta prepping it to sell. The sooner I sell it, the sooner I can focus back on Nismo 500, and BB2.  

Nismo 500 has just been siting in the warehouse for more than a year. 

I did an update in February, so here is what has happened since then.   I filled it up with E85.  $2.49 per gallon with Vons discount.  79% ethanol by my ECB-1

Ryobi 18v grinder taking the head off some allen hardware

More than that.  I replaced the rotor rings on the two piece front rotors. Racing Brakes had some rings in stock, and the car needed them. They had been run hard, and were showing those signs. The old hardware, allens didn't all come off that easy.  So took to the Ryobi 18v grinder to take the heads off. I really like this Ryobi grinder. Works much better than the Craftsman 19.2 that I have used a long time. The Craftsman never seem to last long on a charge, and always seem to stop/ not take much of a load.  At $45 to $70 the Ryobi is great if you have that line of cordless tools.

The Racing Brake 355 x 32 rotors with my aluminum hats weighed in at 18.96 lbs or 19 between friends.

Interesting how the stackup changes mounted to un mounted. The R888R are 265. The RE71R are 275

I removed the GK Tech uppers. I just wasn't that happy with them. The bearings in them aren't durable enough for me. The adjustment of them on car is pretty difficult.  The silver sliders are something I have had for a while. I forget who made them.  I was going to install them, but I think I am going to work on something else suspension wise for the front.  

Nismo upper mounts, and stock upper arm.  The bluecar also has the longer lower control arm from Nismo.  The OEM is 5mm shorter C-C. So this will give you more camber. It also widens the front track a little, something you want to help front grip. 

Put the Auto Select front radiator plate back on the car. I like this one, it covers everything in the front including the headlights. Air through things is important. Very important. 

ARC Grille Mount Oil cooler. In this car I run two oil coolers. It also has one mounted under the car. When I run a GT-R hard, I get the oil hot.
